My first reaction was 'without', but on reflection, the vegetation gives it scale and I would keep it.
I prefer the crop, but there is nothing wrong with the original either. Boy, that was decisive, wasn't it!
Both are quite impressive. Perhaps even a bit more background would give a better perspective and make it look like the foreground would be like a big moving alien mass invading the plain.
The cropped image is more abstract in nature because of the lack of context. That's what I was aiming for. I'll probably print it both ways.
