Montana Workshop Wrap Up

Wrapping up the posts from our Montana B&W Workshop:

You'll probably see this Barn again, as I like to post Flags on National Holidays.  But I didn't want to wait on this one.  The Barn at Photographers Formulary.

Old Church Building?  From Virginia City, Montana.  The only image I made there.  I think I was just tired and burned out.  Donald made more photos, but hasn't posted them yet.....

And on the way home, the Tetons from Togwotee Pass, Wyoming.  We hope to return next year.

Lake Holland

We spent a couple of evenings at Lake Holland.  Here a few scenes from one of the rolls:

In the Trees........

I wasn't finding the fog at Van Lake very inspiring.......But I do like trees.  So I turned the camera around and looked at the Forest:

Garnet, Montana: Mining Flotsam & Jetsam

Wrapping up our B&W visit to Garnet Montana with odds and ends that I'l calling "Flotsam & Jetsam".

We start with the Garnet Saloon....not much to see inside, but a nice facade:

 Above: an assortment of miner's cabins, which typically only lasted ~5-10 years because they were built without foundations. and Below:  I especially liked the tool marks left by the axe on these rough hewn logs.

And yes, a fire hydrant, because many ghost towns have fallen victim to fires.  Some building at Garnet too.  But planning ahead, installing a fire hydrant and well insures preservation.

The Garnet Hotel

Back to images made on our Journey through Montana.  We now visit the Garnet Hotel.  A really substantial building for a mining town, and an indicator of Prosperity:

Here, two views of typical Guest Rooms.

Miners that didn't have their own cabins could stay in Attic Quarters at the Hotel.  The outlines on the floor show the extent of each miner's 'cubicle'.  There were originally walls separating their spaces.

As  promised I'm finally getting around to the postings from Garnet, MT.  As wsome of you may remember, I am a bib tennis fan and tend to go off the blogging rails during grand slam events.  Right now It's Wimbledon.

Exploring Garnet, Montana

Garnet Montana is a very well restored and preserved mining ghost town north of Missoula, Montana.  I have to say in regards to this and other experiences, that the BLM does a great job with preservation and interpretation.  We'll start with an overview of Garnet and explore interiors and exteriors through the Holiday Weekend:
