We wrap up the month with more from the CarHenge Art Reserve:

CarHenge Art Reserve Part I

So I was expecting CarHenge to be really kitschy.  But it wasn't!  Surprisingly Photogenic.  And there's more.  Continuing the story, it has become a Sculpture Garden for artwork made from car parts.

We leave CarHenge and walk up the hill to the main installation.

Some of these have been cropped, and I generally removed my shadow.  

But this one lined up so well that I kept it in the composition.

Getting Back to Americana.....At Carhenge

Yes I still have un-posted images from my November road trip through South Dakota and Nebraska.

I lost a bit of momentum with recent events and the abrupt end to my 52 Rolls Project.  But we're up and running again.

So let's get back to Alliance, Nebraska.  You will remember we viewed the 2017 Eclipse from here.  But with the crowds, we were unable to visit One of the Major Local Sights.....

So here we go CARHENGE!

Although it was mid-November, This goblin was still hanging out along the road side.

Americana......Driving the back roads

Driving the back roads you see quite a few interesting things in small towns.  Such was the case on our recent road trip when we wandered through Valentine, Nebraska:

Film Ferrania Test: Part I

I took Film Ferrania P30 on the road trip to the Eclipse.

Now, maybe it's a bad idea to do a film test on a road trip.  Because You can't be assured of the results.........Should have followed that logic. The images are salvageable, but it will take some work in the darkroom to get them right.  First the Before Image:

Rather flat and frankly disappointing, despite the dark orange contrast filter.  Seems a bit underexposed, and I've never had that happen with the XD-11. I exposed the film as recommended: ISO 80.  Now the After Image with basic Contrast and Brightness manipulation in Photoshop (+50 Brightness & +75 Contrast):

A much more pleasing image of the Courthouse and Jail Rocks, 

along the Oregon Trail in Nebraska.

So I have another Ferrania P30 test underway exposing +1 stop.  We'll see later how that worked out.  For the rest of this week, we'll look at scenes across western Nebraska.

The Eclipse On Film

As Recorded on Film.  And yes, the digital images turned out better mostly because these all seem a bit over exposed and maybe out of focus.  The lens was hard to work with (my fault for not practicing enough).

But I was also focused on Enjoying the Natural Event, which is permanently burned in my memory.  All the sites, the sounds, sharing with the people around me.  Very Moving and Emotional.  Here are my film images in sequence:

As I mentioned, it's very hard to express the feeling of Totality.
But this book does a great job of sharing this experience.

Thanks to Spectrum Telescopes for our solar filters and glasses.

And Now the Kitch, Cudos and more Thanks.......

We stayed in Sydney, Nebraska, Cheyenne County.

The Visitor's Bureau handed out 'survival kits' the night before, 

which included safe viewing glass, a bottle of water and a bag of popcorn.

The glasses were a really classy thing to do......

Alliance, Nebraska did a great job providing links and information 

for the Optimal Eclipse Experience!

We had a Great Time at the Alliance Berean Church, which provided 

both camping and parking a big grassy field.  

We ended up parking with several groups from the 

Denver area that had driven up that morning.
