An Evening of Owls.....

Above with the Curator, Anne, this guy was flight capable.  he ended up at the rescue because he refused to leave humans behind and live a wild life (he had been raised as a rescue).

The Great Horned Owl @ the Raptor Education Foundation.   The familiar "owl" sound effect used in the movies.

These guys really blend into the bark.  As we will see, all owls are designed to "disappear" into the woods while they sleep during the daytime.

He seemed to be attracted to something behind him, moving in the brush.  So I captured several quick Head turns (and a lot of the back of his head).

This Merlin is owned and trained by the Foundation Curator, Anne Price.  It is a healthy flying bird, but lives at the Foundation.

The Colorado Urban Wildlife Photo Club (which we belong to) had a recent Photo shoot at the Raptor Education Foundation.  So this week we will visit with some of the Residents. Most of these lovely birds were permanently disable by humans activities.  Please Treat Wildlife with RESPECT! We share this Earth, we don't own it!

Manatee Refuge......A Good Use of Power

It was in the upper 30's during the beginning of my Florida trip.  Quite cold for Tampa Bay and dangerously cold for Manatees (you can only see their noses here).

Discovered by the Manatees in 1986, a refuge was created at this Tampa Bay Power Plant:

Unlike many animal, Manatees do not survive on instinct alone.  They must be taught the best places to eat and stay warm by their mothers.  There are many more here now than when I first visited about 20 years ago.  Obviously the location of this special place is being passed down through the generations.
