Friday the 13th, a fitting Day for my Last Ghost Post.  The only verified death to occur on the Queen Mary was John Henry, a Boiler Room Mate.  Read about the Famous QM Ghosts Here.

Catching up with the Queen Mary: The Ghosts

I recently realized that I had not posted any of my images from 2 trips to the Queen Mary this Spring and Summer,  So Now it's time to catch up!

In March I attended a Ghost Hunting Tour and Paranormal Conference at the Queen Mary with a friend.  So lets start with some host Hunting Images.  First let me explain that I was taking Full Spectrum Images, so they will appear to be out of focus, because not all of the spectral align the same.  But if there were Ghost, you should see them.

If anyone has an idea where I can get software that will allow me to process full spectrum images, please let me know.........

We had a 4 hour Ghost Hunting Tour which included the Engine Room where we spent most of our time.  This Tour runs regularly on Weekends, so check it out if you are in the area.  Well worth it and the guide, Matthew Schulz, is excellent!

Weekends Online: How Film Makes You Think, Before You Shoot!

First the Quote from Frank H. Wu on 35mmc:

"The lesson to be learned about life is that we, or at least I, do not appreciate as much what I have been given as what I have had to bargain for. I earn my film photos. I have to be able to afford it. That means repeatedly. Each and every satisfying click and whirr is a few pennies, which must be in the pocket. I am automatically averse to waste."

The conclusion is that His film photos are always personally more satisfying (and often objectively better) than His digital images.

For me, my best photos are definitely film.  One of last year's successes IS digital, but I planned and captured the image like it was film.  I saw the potential image, walked around the scene looking for the best angles, made three images; taking into consideration how I might crop the final images as well.  And THINKING like a film photographer avoids Waste.  For a digital Photographer, the "waste"  is all that time you spend in front of the computer sorting through hundreds of images that you would never use.

As I busy myself shooting for Holga Week, let take a look at more Infrared Experiments from my recent trip to Santa Barbara, California.  At Santa Inez Mission:

This being an active Parish Church, I waited for the Sunday Afternoon Service 

to finish before touring.

Also, I am still tagging Churches as 'Faith on Film' even if some are digital.  Keeps all of my Church Images in a neat searchable package.






Maybe I've done enough of these digital IR images not to call them experiments anymore.  But more experiments with film are coming soon.

We continue with the infrared experiments from the Symposium.  For our afternoon in Day Canyon, we were told to look for this Tree:

I've been experimenting with Infrared Film here for a while.  Recently I decided to take the leap and have a Nikon-1 converted to full spectrum (so I could do some other experiments) and using  an IR filter, play with B&W infrared as well.

Vegetation being the most dramatic, I did some experimenting during our Moab Symposium workshops.

Driving down Long Canyon, we saw this Cottonwood in the distance and spent some time with it.
