52 Rolls Week #12

Starting the Gardening Odyssey..........between all the Spring Snow Storms , my early bloomers have taken a beating:

My poor forsythias were fooled by the warm January and bloomed a month early.  

Then the snows came as usual.

The Tulips  (below) will fair better....not yet setting buds.

Peru Creek #5: Towards Argentine Pass

Around the corner and over the ridge was another famous mining district at Argentine Pass.  We'll take a look at that area next week.

Peru Creek #4: Tram System Station

You can see the traces of the rails that carried the ore out to the tram.  Here it was dumped into the tram cars and carried to the mill.

You can see the tippings from the mine above the tram station.  Tippings are the waste rock adjacent to the mine entrance.  Tailings are the leftovers from the Stamp Mill process.  In some cases early mills were so inefficient that the tailings could be reprocessed for ore metals.

The Pennsylvania Mine was the largest and most profitable in this mining district........

Pennsylvania Mine Stamp Mill: focus of a major clean up effort.  Silver sulfides mined here have resulted in a largest regional source of acid mine drainage. A remediation project is underway.
