2019 Year End Wrap Up: Films Test Results

I tested 8  'new' (to me at least) films this Spring and Summer:  CineStill 800,  Silberra (100, 160), Rollei Retro 80S, Ilford FP4, Lomochrome Purple and of course the long awaited Kodak E100 (I'll talk about that one last).  Let me start with a film sent to me by my EMULSIVE Secret Santa: Ilford FP4 and Washi Z 400.

Ilford FP4 isn't a film I've ever thought of trying.  But that's what Secret Santas are for; to push us out of our comfort zone.......More Results Here.

Washi Z 400 is another IR Sensitive film  I had not heard of it until my Secret Santa gave it to me last year.  Definitely need to try another roll, but I wish it came in 120 size:

My Results from both Silberra Films were Pretty good.  This was an Indiegogo Project that I supported in 2018:

Rollei Retro 80S is an IR sensitive film (like Ilford SFX-200).  I read about it on one of the blogs that I follow and decided to try it.  It's not going to replace SFX-200 for me, but worth a try:

I jumped on the Lomography band wagon and ordered the Lomochrome Purple.  I've never been drawn to special effects films before, but this one intrigued me.  Of course it finally arrived months behind schedule, but oh well......

CineStill has been around for a while.  I have several rolls that I never seemed to shoot.  In the Spring we visited the Biosphere2 and I loaded up my Fuji GA645Zi with CineStill 800.  It's a Tungsten film but performed OK in the muted day lit interior of the Bioshere:

And Finally the Kodak E100 Transparency Film.  The Link is to my summary experience.  For me personally, the film ran too cold:

ISO 125 Metered

ISO 125: true Color

Pushed to ISO 200

So I am going to give Fuji Velvia 50 another try in 2020.  

And if they come out with a 120 version of E100, we'll have a true shoot out!

52 Rolls Redux: Week 15 2017

Our Sunday Redux........Time test from last year in preparation for Pinhole Day:

I've been doing lot's of film and exposure testing these past two weeks in preparation for a photography workshop and Pinhole Day, not much to report.  So I'm posting a final image of my Garden, which managed to survive the early threats of bad weather.  it is snowing now, but my Tulips and Daffodils are long gone, so that's OK.  See more of the Garden in my Portra 160 Pinhole time tests, in preparation for Worldwide Pinhole Day (coming April 30th).

I also tried some long exposures with Ilford Pan F Plus (ISO 50).  But not enough wind and exposures too short.  I have another roll and I'll try again on a very windy day.

A Walk Along Boulder Creek

We've previously viewed color images from this Walk.   But I rarely just shoot one roll of film.  So this is a B&W roll from the same camera test of the Fuji GA645Zi. And you are seeing the post before the 52 Rolls Project.

52 Roll Week #4: In the Streets

I think we are past testing the Fuji GA645Zi camera.  So now we take a look at what for me is a new film:  Lomography C-41 films, this time ISO 400:

The photos above and below show the zoom feature 50-90mm, which gives you a wide angle to normal lens range.  Both are 90mm.

A New Camera Joins the Family: Fuji GA645Zi

So Why with all My Mamiyas did I buy another medium format camera?  This one has the features of being auto focus and auto advance.  It shoot 16 images instead of the M-7 '10 shots' or M-6 '12 shots'.  These features make it my potential medium format Street Photography Choice.  I also read a very encouraging review here.

But One Caveat:  all of the camera controls require a fully functioning LCD (in the interest of finalizing this post, I'll show LCD in a later post).  I had to return one that had a LCD that was beginning to fail.  Without the LCD you can only see and change your setting by looking through the viewfinder.  Not a realistic option for my intended 'on the go' photography.
