The Eclipse On Film

As Recorded on Film.  And yes, the digital images turned out better mostly because these all seem a bit over exposed and maybe out of focus.  The lens was hard to work with (my fault for not practicing enough).

But I was also focused on Enjoying the Natural Event, which is permanently burned in my memory.  All the sites, the sounds, sharing with the people around me.  Very Moving and Emotional.  Here are my film images in sequence:

We stayed in Sydney, Nebraska, Cheyenne County.

The Visitor's Bureau handed out 'survival kits' the night before, 

which included safe viewing glass, a bottle of water and a bag of popcorn.

The glasses were a really classy thing to do......

Alliance, Nebraska did a great job providing links and information 

for the Optimal Eclipse Experience!

We had a Great Time at the Alliance Berean Church, which provided 

both camping and parking a big grassy field.  

We ended up parking with several groups from the 

Denver area that had driven up that morning.

A Journey to Totality: Part II

A Journey to Totality: Part I

I'm finally feeling like posting about the Solar Eclipse.  It was one of those 'once in a lifetime' events, and it's been hard to think about sharing images that can't show the 'experience'.  You just had to be there.......

We went to Alliance, Nebraska.............Staying in a town 80 miles away (Sidney, NE).  We went up a couple of days ahead to take in the lay of the land so to speak.  The locals were warm and welcoming, but many wondered what all the fuss was about.......I hope they stepped outside on August 21st, and figured it out........

The morning of the 21st was not promising, with heavy fog over western Nebraska....

But armed with our McDonalds Breakfast and Faith, we drove north towards Alliance....

By 9:30 when we were set-up in Alliance, the skies cleared...and we waited.

We setup 2 digital and one film camera.......

Of course, I was shooting film and that's being processed.......

Tomorrow, we'll look at the digital Images while we wait, 

and celebrate the one week anniversary.

New Photography Goals for 2017

Last year I did a complete rewind of 2015, because I hadn't really fufillled those goals.......

1. Spending More Time in the Darkroom
2. Finally learning how to make good digital negatives (got a book for Christmas)
3. Building a LED-UV light box for Alternative processes
4. Solargram in the Front yard (Missed the Winter Solstice, but I'll try for the Spring Equinox)

None of these goals really happened (again).  Although I did try the solargrams, but the pinholes really need to be attached to the second story of the house to get a good sun angle.  And I did get  a bit of a jumpstart with the Montana Printing Workshop.  I realized that Print technique is really a major part of my artistic style and I need to get focussed on that again.  And I'm not rolling them over for 2017. Instead.........

What DID work for me was The 52 Rolls 2016 Project posted on EMULSIVE was a great success!  Got me out shooting almost every week.  And I'm ending the year only a week behind.  So I'm trying this again.  Last year I started out with Holga postings and made it through 6 months before I burned out and had to move on to other cameras.  This year I'll pursue a more balanced approach that includes some printing........and I'm going to mix it up with the cameras used for the project; Probably focussing on a camera for a month or two and moving on.

So my Photography Goals for 2017 are simple:

1. 52 Rolls Project 2017 (always stick with something that works)
2. More Darkroom Time ( I'm committing to 1 print per month; 12 prints this year.  I think putting a real number on it will help to make it happen)
3. Moab Photo Symposium (This Year focussing on B&W)
4. Photographing the August 21, 2017 Total Solar Eclipse in Western Nebraska
