Catalina Island Menagerie

Lots or Birds, Fish and seasonally Whales and Seals.  But on land you'll be fortunate to see the local Foxes (which climb trees) and the Bison that were introduced in the early 1900's.  I highly recommend taking the Catalina Island Conservancy Tour.

We were lucky to see the Foxes before they went climbing:

You'll remember the critter proof trash containers that featured the Foxes:

And the Bison, originally brought there for a movie I believe:

More From the Garden

It's time to start giving some of the bounty away........I can only eat so much summer squash.  Obviously easy to grow.

Now for some tomatoes and I can make my annual Ratatouille.

A Journey to Totality: Part III

Now the wrap up show, starting with my favorite image:

"Diamond Ring" with Corona

As I mentioned, it's very hard to express the feeling of Totality.
But this book does a great job of sharing this experience.

Thanks to Spectrum Telescopes for our solar filters and glasses.

And Now the Kitch, Cudos and more Thanks.......

We stayed in Sydney, Nebraska, Cheyenne County.
The Visitor's Bureau handed out 'survival kits' the night before,
which included safe viewing glass, a bottle of water and a bag of popcorn.
The glasses were a really classy thing to do......

Alliance, Nebraska did a great job providing links and information
for the Optimal Eclipse Experience!

We had a Great Time at the Alliance Berean Church, which provided
both camping and parking a big grassy field.
We ended up parking with several groups from the
Denver area that had driven up that morning.

And some kitch from Denny's

Thanks Nebraska, We'll Be Back!

A Journey to Totality: Part II

Part II, the digital images from the Nikon D-7100 with Tamron 150-600 mm zoom lens @ max zoom and solar filter.  If you need to be convinced to have a solar filter on hand for 2024, view this video.

Donald made these very low-res.  So this is as large as it gets.

Solar Flares were visible during Totality

"Diamond Ring" Effect, as Totality Passes.

Tomorrow a Farewell, Thank you's, more images and my Favorite Image.

Rocky Mountain Chorale.........

This is how I spent my weekend.  Music helps to heal, and my spirits were definitely helped by having to perform.

Raptor Education Foundation: How Could I Forget This Guy!

OOOOPS!  One more bird to post.  And how could I forget one of my favorites,  The Turkey Buzzard:

Above with the Curator, Anne, this guy was flight capable.  he ended up at the rescue because he refused to leave humans behind and live a wild life (he had been raised as a rescue).
Below, feasting on a quail.

Our more experienced Comrades wanted to see the last bite, Ideally a foot being swallowed:

Good to the last Bite!
