Ektar Film Test: Part II

Now how about my deadly blue Colorado sky?

I have to say disappointing...............

And sometimes even slightly turquoise......

These sky colors are not winning me over!  This may send me back towards Fuji Velvia.

Ektar Film Test: Part I

With the recent demise of my favorite slide film, I was tempted to try Kodak's new Ektar print film.  I'll start with what I think it did best:  Night Color Photography.......

Christmas Lights from the Denver Botanical Garden.............What do you think of the colors?

I don't think that we are seeing much/any reciprocity failure....
Do you agree?

That would be an obvious advantage of this film.

Weekend Scanning: Bristlecones Found

I'm starting to look at the first two years of photos that I've taken here in Colorado.  Fresh from the California Central Coast, I was totally in to B&W.  Still shooting in my California Style

One of our early off road adventures was in search of the local Bristlecone Pines.  You've seen others before, but these are new:

Getting to the root of things:

Bravo Donald!

When I posted this on my other blog, I thought, the other guys need to see it too!

In our times of perfect digital focus,  I rarely see an image that uses Depth of Field to its fullest advantagel.......

Boreas Pass Cabin

Away from the summit ghost town we found what was probably a hopeful prospector's cabin in ruins near a pond:

Or it may have been the edge of town more than 100 years ago.........

I love the texture of weathered wood.............

Filter Play

Remembering the Red Water Tower, how much can B&W filters change the image?  And Which filter would you choose?

Opposite colors darken the color in your Image.  So a green filter makes the red tower the darkest:

A Yellow Filter darkens the tower just a bit less:

A Red filter over exposes the Image, making the red too bright; but yields the dark sky that we use a red filter to enhance:

I'd take the Green filter and play with it a bit more in the darkroom..........What's your choice?

Last GX at Boreas Pass

The Last Roll of E100GX also made a few Stops at Boreas Pass.  Shown here the water tower on the North upgrade approach.  If you know anything about steam engines, then you know that their operation was water intensive.

Next, a little Filter Play at the Water Tower.

Boreas Pass

Winter Photography down on the plains is not so great at the moment.   And we haven't made a photo trek to the Mountains yet.  No rush because the snow will be in good photogenic condition until March (or longer).

So let's just enjoy summer, or whatever season come to mind.  From our first summer here in 2006:

The Boreas Pass Road is another old narrow gauge railroad grade (formerly a stage road), now off road adventure.  Unlike some of the others, Boreas Pass is well graded and accessible by car in the summer.

Some out building of the ghost town remain.  The town was mostly there for maintenance of the snow sheds, and as a refuge from the most severe storms.

A 'track re-enactment" is located at the ghost town. showing the narrow gauge.

Last Roll of E100GX at Loveland Pass

So I have shot and processed my last roll of Kodak E100GX, and I make this post as the last rolls of Kodachrome are being processed.

A Bit of Snow

Finally some decent snow fall:

TheVignette is unintentional, but in the end I liked it.  Cause:  too many filter on my wide angle lens.  I've done this before, but when I'm in a rush I can forget.........

Happy 87th Birthday Mom!

Mom's graduation from grade school.  In those day grade school ended at 8th grade, then directly to high school as a freshman........

They made their own graduation dresses as a part of sewing class.......

Continuing with the family project means turning this into a cyanotype or van dyke.....

2011 New Year's Photography Resolutions

Taking a look back at Last Year's plan of action I didn't get very far only completing 5 of my 16 objectives:

Introduce ‘The Family Project’ (Family Photo Preservation)
New Series ‘Weekly Volcano’
Experiment with Pinholes
Colorado Mining History and Cemetery Series
Kodak Duaflex

But I think I had way too many plans.  So we will keep it simpler this year.  Ideally I'll be in the darkroom a lot!

I leave at the top of my list for 2011 the Darkroom.  Cross your fingers that I will be posting something from my darkroom by February.

Start Printing in My Home Darkroom
Continue with Pinholes (I have a paint can pinhole to play with this year)
Try Solargraphy
Spend more time with the Holga, Lomo and other plastic cameras
Work on the Family Project (Easier once I have the darkroom)
Play with Caffenol
Dig into my slides from Spain, Norway, and Africa........and Post them for you!

My only camera plans:

Still looking for a Minolta SRT-101
Long-range Plans for a Mamiya 6X7
Longer-range plans for a Graflex Press Camera (Speed Graphic model)

What are your Photo Plans for this year?

P.S.  I'll also be redesigning the blog.  If you like the current background please vote for keeping it.
